- Coleen Spapperi is the owner of Starsounds Inc. which provides music artist management and development, with a focus on assisting artists within taking their work and creativity to the next level on their path of wherever they desire to go. Starsounds belief is within keeping the artist and their message that they bring to the world as the creative center and that from this all things flow. Coleen’s passion is within being that inspirational fire and directional guide for her artists and within all that she is and does. From her humble beginnings as a club DJ back in the 80’s to being the field sales rep for Universal Music Group, (which at the time distributed MCA, Geffen, DGC, Motown, GRP records) Coleen knows the inner workings of the music business on many levels. A graduate of Columbia College with a BA in Music Business Management, in which during this time she also completed an internship with MCA records as an assistant to the MCA Midwest Radio Promotion staff, is where many of the skills that she utilizes today within her music management company came to be honed. Coleen’s journeys have taken her many places, including that of being a Music Sales Representative for UNI with territories covering Illinois and Wisconsin. Working with clients such as Tower Records, Virgin Records and many Indi stores. She co-founded Dr. Robert’s Productions with her husband Steve Spapperi. Through assisting Steve with locating bands and artists for him to engineer/produce, booking his sessions, and other music business operations, this production company worked with bands such as Ministry,Die Warzau, Rev. Horton Heat, Anthrax, and Marz, among many others. After working with the band Ministry for ten years Coleen and Steve relocated to Austin, Texas in which Steve ran Ministry’s Studio. During that time, Coleen worked as Al Jorgensen’s Personal Manager’s Assistant, as well as, Retail Coordinator for an Indie label called Sector 2. Upon returning to Chicago in 1999 is where Starsounds Inc. was born. As their 2nd production company, Coleen’s position was that of her role in Dr. Roberts. During this time, she also became the Midwest Account Manager for Allegro Music Distribution with territories covering many states including IL, WI, IN, KY, CO, IA. Working with clients such as Tower Records, Virgin Records, Rolling Stone Records, Crows Nest Records, and Wax Works Records, Coleen created a cohesive environment through strategic planning and relationship building to increase sales. In addition to her endeavors with Starsounds, Coleen is currently studying at DePaul Law School with her focus on Entertainment Law and is also setting her sights on utilizing her knowledge and expertise within teaching. She feels that her experience, travels, and knowledge would be greatly beneficial to up and coming artists, as well as, entrepreneurs within getting a grasp of the music industry as a whole. Throughout her career, Coleen’s experience has taught her every facet of the music industry from the recording process to the marketing and sales of the finished product and everything in-between. Such a journey too has given her the opportunity to connect and create with a variety of well know artists, producers, and engineers. It is her desire within honoring such a path that she traverses to continue to share her talents with others to empower and inspire them along their journey.
